知らなかったこと "Transfection" and "Transduction"

学生時代を含めて全然知らなくて、間違いを指摘されたこと。反省したい。でも、他にもたくさん間違って使用しているような気がするな。どうやったら、正確な語彙を学べるのかな。

The technically distinct terms "Transfection" and"Transduction" are very loosely used throughout the manuscript.Please note that when nucleic acids are introduced to cells through viral infection, the method is referred as transduction.

Transfection and transduction

Another common method for manipulating cells involves the introduction of foreign DNA by transfection. This is often performed to cause cells to express a protein of interest. More recently, the transfection of RNAi constructs have been realized as a convenient mechanism for suppressing the expression of a particular gene/protein. DNA can also be inserted into cells using viruses, in methods referred to as transduction, infection or transformation. Viruses, as parasitic agents, are well suited to introducing DNA into cells, as this is a part of their normal course of reproduction.

臨床試験は二人だと思っていたけど、日本語の新聞だと4人みたい。ジェロンの話。

Geron社は、ヒトES 細胞の臨床試験をやめるみたい

ジェロン社は、幹細胞ビジネスから完全撤退するみたい。 John A. Scarlett, the chief executive of Geronは、ウィスコンシン大学からのES 細胞を使用している。このES 細胞が発表されたのは、1998年頃かな。2010年にFDAから治験届が受理されている。カリフォルニア州から25億円程度のお金を借りて、6億円くらい返したみたい。脊損患者2例に投与したけど、効果がなかったようだ。安全性に問題はないけど、有効性が示せなかったみたい。2例のうち、一例でも効けば事態は変わっただろうに。66人クビにしているみたい。会社の40%近くをクビにして、抗癌剤に選択・集中するみたい。ジェロン社は幹細胞ビジネスを売るかライセンシングしたいみたいだけど、買ってくれる企業があるといいな。今はACT社が唯一のES細胞を薬として売ろうと考えている会社だ。ACT社の首脳陣は、株主からのプレッシャーをはねのけるのに時間と労力が必要となってくるだろう。StemCells Inc. は中絶胎児からの神経幹細胞をして臨床試験しているけど、持ってくれるといいな。
